The first thing I want to see is ISD's no longer being able to OPT UP multiple teams. Example if an ISD has 5 schools, 2 6A and 3 5A-1. they cannot opt up the 3 5A to 6A. When an ISD opts up schools it screws up realignment and creates a domino effect across multiple divisions and Classifications. One or two ISD can drastically effect the entire State by the current Opt up Policies.

I would exclude all private schools from UIL competition. I remember watching Marion lose to Gateway from Austin in the baseball playoffs a few years ago and thinking how unfair it was for a small town school to be playing a team that had players from all over Austin on their team!
Sorry, but any school with 'open enrollment' of any kind should be eliminated from playing other UIL schools in any sport!

1) Rotate the football state title games. I still have a hard time believing the UIL is trying to work with SA and/or Houston to get this done. 2) Rotate all state sports championships. The notion of central location has been tossed out along time ago with non Austin area facilities being used (volleyball in Garland, Basketball in SA). Baseball if not going to be a double elimination should be given to Corpus Christi Whataburger field which sits as many people or more as the Disch in Austin. If EL Paso and the Panhandle need to be thrown a chance for something, do it. It wouldn't hurt kids ( their family) and fans from other parts of the state to visit another part (IE more South Texas kids/families/sports fans probably visit Houston and Dallas more than those from areas visit South Texas or West Texas for that matter)
3) End Opt Ups except in the extreme travel cases only.
4) Shot Clock for basketball

Inconsistent holding calls and 10 yards is too much. 5 yards would be more appropriate. 10 yards gives the refs too much of a tool to kill drives.

I see your point, but if you lessen the 10 yd penalty wouldn't that just encourage more holding? I'm pretty sure they could call holding on 8 out of 10 plays as it is now.

The inconsistent part is what I have a hard time with much more than I do the 10 yards. I honestly believe offensive holding could be called on every single play of the game when interpreting the rule verbatim. I've always felt that it should only be called when the hold actually alters the outcome of the play. The ones that get me madder than a wet hen are when the flags come out for a holding call 10+ yards behind the play and on the opposite side of the damn field.

It's like at times I think a particular Ref does this to be relevant in particular game.... LMAO saying this it reminds of a Ref a few years back in a playoff game down in Kingsville was actually practicing his flag throwing motion before the game... Looked like a total Goober too! The other penalty that drives me nuts is a block in the back call and again being called when the ball is already 10 or 15 yards down field from the spot of the penalty and the player that got blocked probably wouldn't of had a chance to make the play if he was not even blocked at all.

When they do realignment, they need to use 8-11 grade numbers and 7-10 numbers and take average between those. This would get a more accurate number for the 2 yrs actually played.

I believe they already use the 8th - 11th grade for numbers. Not sure I understand using the 7th grade numbers though? Do you mean in case the 7th grade class is either much larger or much smaller than the 8th grade class?

For first year 8th will be freshman and 11th will then be seniors. For second year 7th will then be freshman and 10th will be seniors.

For football, I would like to see the regional finals alternated every year or other year. Currently, it's R1vsR2 & R3vsR4. Swap it up to R1vsR3 and R2vsR4 or any combination.
I was a band nerd and I would like to see Marching Bands have a shot at the State marching contest every year. Currently, you can only qualify for the state marching contest twice in your four years of HS. Odd Numbered Years: Conferences 5A, 3A and 1A. Even Numbered Years: Conferences 6A, 4A, and 2A. In every HS sport, you have an opportunity to make the playoffs each year but the Marching bands only get two opportunities. This really irritated me in my HS years as we have some good groups that missed that chance.

She was drum major there as well. We have no idea where she got the musical gift she has because my wife doesn't play anything and I struggle to pick a tune here or there on a guitar. Music is great a something you can have with you the rest of your life. We truly enjoyed all the kids she was with at Steele and loved having them come out to the place and build a fire and sit around playing music together. Great Kids! Each and every one of them.

I played Trombone. I could not read sheet music to save my life now, but I still know a few songs by heart, or at least I think I do.
