I only saw the few minutes of the end game one. The broadcast was by a Rouse homer crew, they were very upset with the game and some calls. Im not sure if Rouse pitched their ace in game one but they came off as very shocked and upset they did not dominate the game.

Is the aviator's field in Robstown still a functional ballpark? Does it still get used for HS games or anything?

Flooding big time from San Antonio southward. Any games played later today scheduled for non turf fields will not happen today nor the rest of the week. Turf fields will earn their keep this week even in the sticks!

Is the aviator's field in Robstown still a functional ballpark? Does it still get used for HS games or anything? Yes. In addition to some high school games, there is a semi pro team using it right now that doesn't require a lot of overhead. Kind of like a weekend league for those who still have a dream. I always thought the wizards of smart who run the county could lure one of these sports complex corporations to take it over and build some additional fields around it and make a regional baseball complex out of it. It's a shame though it was built in the first place. First thing they messed up with in the design was no covered areas to block off the sun. Watching a day time game there was like sitting in the middle of a parking lot on a hot/clear day.

Seems like every season teams scramble to find turf fields to play playoff games on.

Turf fields will earn their keep this week even in the sticks! Do you think the direction of the baseball and softball fields are going more towards turf? Seems like every season teams scramble to find turf fields to play playoff games on. Appears to be the case.... This time of year climatology is one of the wetter times and of course the baseball/softball season starts in late Jan when from that point until mid March we usually have days of winter yuck here and there. Makes sense to do it at the high school level where your days to play are limited, especially this time of year. Also like with football, a really good natural playing surface requires year around care. With baseball/softball fields, as soon as the season is over most don't get the attention required. Football fields you turn the sprinklers on when needed, fertilize and mow on a schedule. Baseball/softball fields require special care in the infield and if someone is not constantly raking and dragging the dirt , it becomes a mini moon surface. Most of the smaller schools just don't have the manpower to dedicate to year around maintenance to their softball/baseball fields. Around these parts, the smaller class schools and some really out in the sticks were the first to get turf baseball fields. And they've been able to maximize their value by even hosting 6A playoff games as neutral sites which coaches book as soon as they can just in case of rain. I bet some of these kids and families from cites to the north of us never knew where Freer was until they Googled it.. Lol.
