He got them motivated I think his last name was Wood (not related to good ol' Gordon)? I thought dropping down to 4A long before Cal, Alice , TM etc. did would help them and give them motivation enough knowing they were not going to be auto picks for last place? But they continued to play to the script. Some programs have been hurt by baseball thanks to selects and promise made of fat piggy banks, but Robstown was the exception as their football program took the backseat way before that industry got started. Believe it or not they actually had some pretty respectable teams until sometime in the late 70's or 80's Robstown has spent some money on their facilities. They now have turf at their football, baseball and softball fields. I don't think Castro would have allowed turf on his beloved Picker Baseball Field?

Hopefully he can change that culture there. That is correct, Info from the Victoria Advocate says he was West OC for last Season, Passing Game Coordinator for CC Miller and Pasadena Memorial OC before his 1 season at West. West Offense generated 45 points per Game and over 20 yards Passing last season.

Robstown had a good coach from Pflugerville years back and they had a Suptd controversy and he finally retired. The key at Robstown will be fixing the junior Highs.

I drove through there last year and you are right, they do have some very nice facilities for sure. I thought I'd remembered them having a pretty solid team in 2010 the same year that our kids won it and I looked back at their history and they did, they went 8-4 that year. Going back from that year all the way to 1970 they only had 7 seasons where they were .500 or better, 1971 9-1 1980 6-4 1981 6-4 1989 7-3 1990 6-4 2008 5-6 2009 5-5 I hope this coach can get it going and make them competitive.

Yeah they had some good teams back in the mid 60s. You had to go back to the 20s for a team that went as far as that 2010 team

Hall of Fame Football player Eugene Thurman Upshaw Jr played at Robstown and Texas A&I and Oakland Raiders. The Coach Wood from Pflugerville is not related to Coach Gordon Wood and he was assistant in the game with GP before going to Robstown. Robstown problem is High School dropouts. They have lots of kids out for football in Junior High and drop out before reaching their senior year.
