GP will probably be 6a really soon with the houses being built! GP is really growing fast and available land has already bought by developers and new home starts are taking off. Estimates are that GP should have a population north of 50,000 in 15 years. That’s crazy but it is amazing to see so many new homes already built in the last few years.I don’t know the GP ISD”s plan for the future but yes eventually GP will continue to grow. Is a second HS in the future plan? I do like the different approach the administration has taken when hiring Davis. He can bring in up to 6 coaches, the OC and DC do not teach which will help getting his program started and he has full control over every aspect in athletics at GP. And the most important change the HC and the Supt will actively work together to solve problems in the athletics program. That is a big change from the past and it will make a huge difference. Portland people have been claiming growth for 30 years. When is it gonna happen? I remember when Bush left Alice for G-P in 1989 the local news asked him why he would leave a 5A school for a 4A school. He basically said because Portland was growing faster. Still waiting.

Its been growing recently and 6 or 7 neighborhoods have already broken ground west of town! It’s growing now!

Chino, make the drive to Portland and see for yourself. 10 new hotels, 2 huge apartment complexes completely full, over 500 new homes in last 3 years and all land west of Portland bought up by developers. It’s happening now.

Portland definitely growing. I’m on the Planning & Zoning Commission. We have done the platting on lots of new subdivisions. Also some upscale apts. I’ve been here 18 years. It’s definitely grown since then.
Portland has also annexed into their ETJ a bunch of land to the west.
I’m not sure if Gregory has grown, I doubt it. They did build one new apt complex, near the new Exxon plant. Another adjacent to it has apparently gone bankrupt. Construction halted. Probably close to unsalvageable now.

GREGORY – For a few months now, San Patricio County residents may have noticed an apartment complex just off U.S. Highway 181 in Gregory has halted construction. The complex, which will feature 144 units and be known as The Glades II, sits next door to The Glades of Gregory apartments and is by Sinton native Tim Torno.
While Torno no longer lives in San Patricio County, he does have family here and wants his new complexes to reach completion as soon as possible.
“The reason the project shut down was because out lender defaulted,” Torno said. “Our lender is based out of California and when it came time to fund the loan, he just could not do it.
So we funded all the progress that you see today out of our own pocket and now it’s on hold until we close on a new construction loan.”
Eagle-eyed county residents may have noticed some workers there cleaning up the property recently, preparing for the project to start up again as well as a construction trailer now on site as well.
“We’re in negotiations with a couple of lenders but COVID-19 has not made it any easier,” Torno added. “Now that things are improving, lenders are more receptive to getting back to their work and we’ve got two different lenders working very hard at it.
“We’re hoping that within 45 days we’ll be back in construction.”
Torno’s company, Torno Properties LLC, is also looking at building another Glades property in Aransas Pass, which would be 168 units of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments located off the State Highway 35 bypass. While it was originally planned to open in June 2021, the Glades II property has thrown a minor wrench into those plans.
“We really felt that we needed to get the project in Gregory restarted and back on track before we divide our efforts in Aransas Pass,” Torno said.
With San Patricio welcoming several industries into the area as well as suffering from a housing shortage, Torno has his sights set on other areas in the county including Sinton. While he said serious discussions have been put on hold until the Gregory project gets moving again, Steel Dynamics Inc. calling the city its home means there is definitely need for more housing.
As for The Glades II project, Torno said the city and the community have been very supportive and helpful even as they work through issues with construction. He said he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone and is eager to begin working on the project again.
“I grew up in Sinton and my family still lives there,” Torno said. “We have very strong interest in the project and the residents.
“We’re confident we can get it back on track this year.

My Question is who is hyping up that we are going to be great right off the bat? Everyone keeps saying to prepare for a 2-3 year rebuilding stint. Yes it will be about 2 years before we can even say playoffs again. We will see? Sweet So we shouldn't see any drama at all across this board in the next 24 months are so then, right? This needs to be pinned at the top for 2 years 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It was Katrina. Leonard Fournette was 9 years old and rising water trapped his family and grand parents on a bridge and they had to spend the night on the bridge. They had no place to go and were bused to Portland and he played Junior High Ball at GP and then moved back to Louisiana.

That makes it so...

No he never played in high school at GP only jr high and only for one year before moving back to Louisiana. Martin Dossett did play at GP high school, played football and ran track at Baylor. Martin then was signed to play for Green Bay Packers.
