For sure. Alice with a full season would have been competing for the district title and that would have been with an underclassmen dominated team so that should tell you how good they could be next season. Hearing that Camarillo qb transferred back to Alice!! With the season he was able to have at SD, Alice is gonna be a force to reckon with next year. A young team full of great athletes. With them losing their senior QB Guzman, Camarillo will be able to take the reigns and lead the coyotes. Similar play style to Guzman, but with a more accurate and stronger arm. He will only be a sophomore next year which should give him even more time to learn and take over the district. With receivers like Salas, Molina, Vasquez, Ortiz, Ledesma, Arellano, the air attack will be better than we’ve ever seen. Teams like Calallen, Miller, PL, all losing their biggest key players. I got Alice playing for the District Title next season. Calhoun is losing a good fullback and QB for sure the QB replacement has been starting at safety since he was a sophomore on the varsity both running backs return most of the lineman return big linebackers return they will find a fullback they always do recruits on the way battling for that spot Calhoun will be fine district title in sight ....

TM graduates most of their kids that were their standouts. They will not have the same leadership on the field, so hopefully they young guys will step up and build on to the foundation that has been started as far as playing beyond the Calallen game. Hopefully they can be a little more competitive in games as well. They've got a long way to go still, but they have also come a very long way as well.

I agree, although watching the Alice game, I saw old TM come out with the cheap shots and dirty play. That is something that coach Miller has got to drive out of that program. They will never be a quality program if that garbage stays in their program. That points to them not buying in 100% to his way of doing things. Like I said a long way to go, but he definitely has gotten them a long way as well.

I've seen some promise over the last few years with TM. But for some reason when they take two steps forward, they manage to take three steps back. Never understood how the dividing line between the Calallen and TM ISD could translate into one of the best programs in the state being on one side and one the worst record wise being on the other. Just one north to south street divides the two programs. All these kids play on the same youth leagues and get some good coaching so I know it's not this. And one would think the parents who witness this success would be kind of demanding it once they got to middle school. And even now since Calallen ISD has made it more difficult to transfer in from a neighboring district, TM would embrace being able to keep more of their talent on their side of the district boundary. That was always an excuse because yes a number of TM kids ended up at Calallen because of the open enrollment allowed it, so it was almost like expected the studs to be who were identified in the youth leagues started football in middle school over here. And of course the TM people and others would say "he's was supposed to be at TM." One would think back then the issues would have been fixed? I will say they've made some tremendous progress with baseball. They probably would've had a good playoff run last season had Covid not put the season on ice. Their much storied boys basketball program is making a rebound. I think many over at TM and alums are still bitter about how Bobby Craig was treated which probably led to his decline in health and he tragically passed away a few months ago. But they got the right guy now bringing their basketball program up to standards. I wish Calallen would take a page from TM and do something about our boy's basketball program. It's the only missing piece of the puzzle that keeps our program from being a complete athletic program. I would hate to know how many move ins for basketball we are missing because our program is mediocre at best to being a bottom feeder this season. They could also contribute in other sports or have younger siblings who might be good in a sport or two away from basketball including football and baseball on the boys side. I really can't figure out why our administration sits on this one. It's easier to advance to the state tourney in 4A and below because most of the urban and suburban basketball powerhouses are 5A or 6A schools. Calallen hired a new girls basketball coach and he's doing a great job and that program will be back doing it's thing soon like it once was before Volleyball and Softball took some of the wind out of it's sails.

Calallen hired a new girls basketball coach and he's doing a great job and that program will be back doing it's thing soon like it once was before Volleyball and Softball took some of the wind out of it's sails. Let me address the Bobby Craig ordeal. Yes we alumni are still pissed about that. One of our more well known alumni is an attorney/sports agent. He filed a lawsuit against the school on behalf of coach Craig. The litigation was drawing out and he sadly passed away. The new coach though is a quality coach, and it's not his fault the admin screwed over Bobby like they do with most of their loyal faculty and alumni that become faculty. (I know this first hand) Now to the Calallen program, I did not realize that the basketball programs had fallen so badly. That is rough. I hope they both turn around soon to help the quality of ball being played all together. Now on to the mess that has been and is TM football. Yes the big back and forth between Calallen and TM, and kids moving away is a big excuse. Heck I moved back and forth more than once (mainly because my family history and loyalty with Calallen, and I wanted out). I credit the difference in the programs to 3 things. 1. Consistency- Calallen hired Danaher and has supported him for almost 40 years. TM on the other hand has hired so many coaches that I lost count. Most of those guys were not quality hires and were budget friendly head coaches. They did more harm than good. I will say coach Talbert was a giant @$$hole, but he motivated us to thinking we could beat anyone we played. My graduating class is still the only group since the 1983 team that had a winning record all 4 years of high school. 7-2-1 as freshmen, 8-1-1 as sophomores on JV, 6-4 as Juniors on Varsity and 8-2 JV district Champs, and 8-2 on Varsity as Seniors. That was 28 years ago now. Since then they hired Crawford who was fired for sleeping with his secretary, but would have had a good run because his 1 season was 7-2-1 beating GP but losing the playoff tie breaker because Alice spanked them. Then Griffin came in, and they tied his hands and didn't let him do what he needed. Then he lost the kids because he changed offenses and told the kids they were too stupid to run the veer. Then came Williams who did not know how to be a head coach at all. Then Sandajar went 5-6 4-7 making the playoffs because of the Laredo district. He did nothing for that program and then they tried Boone, who I thought would be a great hire and he tried, but again admin sucks at TM. Now Miller is trying and if the admin holds true to form he will be let go soon too. Not because he is a bad coach, but because he hasn't beat the mighty Calallen. This brings me to point 2. 2. The community only cares about beating Calallen. They do not care about the normal things most communities care about. It is "well did you beat Calallen?", the answer is going to stay no until they actually get rid of that mindset and focus on building a real program. I can tell Miller is trying to change that, and he is trying to get them to buy in to the big picture and get stronger and faster. However, that mindset runs deep and they don't all understand that off season weights and workouts build success. I remember being at Calallen and being in the weight room daily to get stronger, then boot camp came to make us mentally tough. TM has never had that type of work out regiment. They think that magically they will beat Calallen one day and the universe will crown them best in the world. 3. Back to the Administration. They care more about the academic reputation of the school than they do football. One thing Calallen does well and the Bluff also, is they do well achieving both. The administration has to realize that both are possible, and a concentrated effort must be made to get football in a respectable position. Until that happens, below mediocrity will be their place.

The administration has to realize that both are possible, and a concentrated effort must be made to get football in a respectable position. Until that happens, below mediocrity will be their place. Yea our basketball team for the last six or so years has been mediocre to bad. We've been in the playoffs in the 4th slot a couple of times, by default because the two or three teams below us were worse and we barely scraped by them. The issue with basketball goes back mainly to baseball and a certain range of kids going back maybe 10 years now were groomed to play baseball in the spring and of course a few of them got fed the baseball only syrup and dropped football too. We had a few classes who won district basketball in middle school and even finished towards the top their freshmen year. But the pressure put on the kids by the baseball and/or their parents to give up basketball depleted the basketball program of some of the better basketball players. So the following year the drop off in performance of the JV and Varsity was very noticeable. And because of this, I think if kind of took the wind out of the coaching staff. What didn't help is we didn't have a youth league on this side of town for a few years because the YMCA quit sponsoring it out here. It got restarted a few years ago and is actually doing real well, but it would help if we could get someone with some fire in his belly to take over the high school basketball program so he can do exactly what football and other sports do well around here and coordinate with the youth leagues and the middle school. Personally I think there are a few local established coaches who would chomp at the bit to be the Head Coach here because they know if Calallen got a better rep in a short period for putting up some good basketball teams, the kids who are going to Flour Bluff, CC Vets, London among others to the play basketball due to their programs strength would come here instead. Like I said, I'd bet a few dollars we have lost families to other districts because basketball is stuck in a rut and we might be missing out on siblings who are good at other sports on either the boys or girls side. Or just some outstanding students and parents who would be an asset to the community. It's funny the focus over at TM is just on beating Calallen and that would be feather in their cap for all time. Does it ever dawn on those who think this if they can beat Calallen during a normal Calallen year , it might be possible they could have a team that can run the table and win district and make a good playoff run?

Beating Calallen for TM would be a big deal. I’m sure Coach Miller’s goal is making the playoffs but the turning point at Flour Bluff was beating Calallen. Coach Miller was at FB when that happened he knows what that does for the kids

Granted it was a visual tangible result the players could see results of their hard work in

Let me address the Bobby Craig ordeal. Yes we alumni are still pissed about that. One of our more well known alumni is an attorney/sports agent. He filed a lawsuit against the school on behalf of coach Craig. The litigation was drawing out and he sadly passed away. Short answer is no they don't. When TM made the playoffs those two years, those boys were told they suck by parents and fans simply because they lost to Calallen. Same thing happened to my senior class that was 7-0 before losing to Calallen and finished 8-2.
