My grand daughter lives in Katy and heard from a lady about a kid who moved from Portland to Sinton who plays on a Katy club ball team. His family drives him from Sinton to Katy 4 times a week for practice and games. He is not in HS yet and has family in Portland and Sinton. His name is not important but I thought it a bit unusual and he must be a very good baseball player for this kind of investment. I suspect Sintonfan knows who I am posting about. Just because his parents think he is the next Mickie Mantle and are blowing thousands of dollars a year don't make it true. 1,480 miles each week = off the deep end if you ask me! If the kid is really that good, why is all that needed when there is plenty of top notch baseball and coaches right there in the CB area?

Sinton has several highly touted upcoming freshmen to go with 5 Fr that were already on varsity last season for 1 open spot for next season. Unless this kid is one of those from the upcoming Fr then might be right. All these kids travel all over each week in summer select teams.

My daughter said he was not in HS yet. I think it is best to leave his name out of it . I thought it was a bit much and when does he have the time to study?

If the kid is really that good, why is all that needed when there is plenty of top notch baseball and coaches right there in the CB area? I've heard of parents from this area and the RGV who would go to DFW for their kids to play. It's insane.... It's all about the Benjamins . Parents are spending wayyyyyy over the amount of money needed for this stuff to where if they put the same into a college fund gaining some interest via Mutual Funds , they would pay for little Johnny's college and maybe enough to pay for a dream vacation. Cash! Then like locally if some of these kids don't even never step foot on a college baseball field.... What does that leave you? Alot of Facebook memories I guess... You can't tell me they can't get enough exposure at a few select tourneys during the summer and then during the spring season? That's how it works for football and basketball along with a few other sports. It fricken worked for decades worth of college and MLB HOF and memorable high school players. And Baseball can't figure out why participation number are down in youth leagues. Get this figured out high school coaches because it begins with you! Quit relying on these select leagues for developing your talent and develop your own... You've probably missed out on some good talent because kids just say the heck with it knowing that Johnny Badass has been on Coach Whoever's radar since he was a coach pitch star on the travel circuit and he's been virtually guaranteed a spot on your high school roster the first day he is officially in high school. Late Bloomers and those who don't want to pay to play need not apply or even try... Did I say this is all about the Benjamins.

One thing to remember is that D1 baseball programs only get 11.7 scholarships per year. Few players get full rides. A coach has to split the money among an entire roster. Many parents don't understand this. They think it's like football where the players do get full rides for a year.

I think a baseball coach gets more flak than any other coach over a parent wanting their kid to play some position. I have a great grandson who plays little league ball in Katy and have pitched to him and looks like has a future and still in grade school but the thought of driving him 200 miles away 4 times a week blows my mind. I see blow ups on TV from time to time and some results in fistacuffs when tempers flare,

Education hint:Teachers live in a education bubble and to overcome our failing education we have today that has been going on a long time , you can take measures yourself. There is education to gain each sat. Morning on ABC by watching Littons Weekly adventure, set your kid in front of TV and gain some geography from watching Rock the Park and other shows, It is pretty enlightening and goes on from about 9 AM to afternoon.

I guess letting little Johnny watch TV all day is the answer. Lol. I know growing up if I was Watching that much TV My mom would have yanked me off the floor by my ear, drug me to the door and forcibly thrown me out. All the while yelling at me to go outside and play. Different time I suppose.

I know some kids who went to big time programs and even moved on to the next level who were offered maybe 60 to 70% rides and they might have given five or six of those per academic year for incoming players. At D2 you might be lucky to get your books and small portion of your tuition paid. UT has enough revenue to offer most of the roster full rides or close to it, but canβt thanks to Title IX.

Sotex, It is about helping young people improve their character, something you would not understand.
