The Hornets travel to RF next Friday night the 25th for FB's first game of the season. RF is looking pretty darn good knocking off Miller tonight. FB will have several new to varsity players including the QB. Hoping they can step up and hold the miscues that always come first game to a minimum.

I'll be watching this one as Southside plays Rockport-Fulton October the 2nd and Bluff may also be a playoff opponent.

In the Calallen game, they looked nothing like they did when they almost pulled out that win against Wagner.

Looking forward to this game. R-F has opened up the eyes with a big win over Miller. FB has some big shoes to fill this year, especially on Defense. The new QB is tall and strong. A good test for the FB Defense.

If R-F can beat F-B then they will definitely turn some heads. Ace definitely can sling the ball when they need to. R-F looks like a scrappy team with heart and a smart coach

From 361 Blast:
ROCKPORT — Flour Bluff opened its 2020 season Friday with a 24-0 blanking of one of the Coastal Bend’s hottest teams.
Nash Villegas threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Rayden Campbell on the game’s initial possession and Isaac Miles and Jose Martinez scored on short runs as the Hornets brought Rockport-Fulton (2-1) back to earth.
A week ago, the Pirates knocked off Miller, the 5th-ranked team in Class 4A Division I.
Bluff coach Chris Steinbruck credited his entire defensive front for coming up with big stops all night against Rockport-Fulton’s prolific Wing-T, which put three backs over 100 yards vs. the Bucs.
“Our entire defensive front did a good job,” Steinbruck said.
He highlighted the play of Arnold Trevino, Gabriel Varela, David Avery, Julian Gallardo, Jacob Rose, Carlos Riojas, Ben Escamilla and Diego Delgado.
Because of Rockport-Fulton’s extra month of conditioning, Steinbruck said he wanted to slow the game’s tempo.
“I was really concerned and apprehensive about scheduling this game because they were going to be in game shape and we weren’t,” Steinbruck said. “We were prepared to try and slow it down as much as we could because they’re just way ahead of us right now with conditioning.”
A slew of offensive penalties and strong Hornet defensive play kept the Pirates from establishing any offensive rhythm.
“Any time we had something good happen, we’d have some kind of penalty or a bad block,” said Rockport-Fulton coach Jay Seibert. “It was just one of those nights we couldn’t get anything rolling.”
“We would have loved to get in the end zone, obviously, but sometimes sports and life can be humbling. We went from the top of the world seven days ago to getting shut out seven days later. And you know, the boys have to realize that kind of stuff happens. Sometimes good things happen, then bad things, and you got to move on to the next one.”

Ryan Wells runs into a swarm of FB defenders. The FB defense swarmed Pirate backs all night, holding them to under 100 yards rushing combined.
From the outset, the home team found itself going in reverse, beginning at one point in the first series 1st-and-30.
After the Pirates punted, the defense came up with a big stop on fourth down by safety George Marable. The Bluff defense returned the favor, making its own fourth down stop to take possession into the second quarter.
Flour Bluff drove downfield behind a strong running game. It wasn’t long before Miles found pay dirt to put the Hornets up 14-0 with 10:38 left in the half.
The Pirates crossed midfield on their next series but were stopped again on 4th-and-short by an aggressive defensive front. The Hornets went on a time-consuming trip with Miles making plays in the open field to put Flour Bluff in the red zone. With 1:17 remaining, Martinez ended the drive for a 21-0 advantage.
After a miscommunication between John Chupe and Devan Phillips on the ensuing kickoff return, Rockport-Fulton was pinned at its own 8. Unable move the football, the Pirates ended the half on a penalty and went into the locker room down 21-0.
They possessed the ball to opened the third quarter but could only muster one first down before punting.
A handful of penalties and stops made in the secondary by put a damper on Flour Bluff’s next drive. Miles left the game with an apparent injury but Steinbruck said he believed the senior was just dealing with cramps.
Rayden Campbell breaks up a pass to Cade Leal.
With under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Pirates began a productive drive after a couple of big gains by Chupe put them inside the Hornet 35. Rockport-Fulton went to the air and Ace Seibert’s pass over the middle to Kaden Harder was picked off by Campbell at his 10.
The senior safety delivered a gut punch with a great play when his team needed it.
“I just tried to help the team as much as I could,” Campbell said.
Flour Bluff took over and milked the remaining time left in the third quarter. During the fourth, the Hornets continued a lengthy, methodical drive into the red zone, ultimately electing to send senior Aidan Featherby out for a successful 26-yard field goal and 24-0 lead.
Jay Seibert said the loss was humbling for his team.
Villegas finished 13-of-21 for 172 yards, Ace Seibert 3-of-10 for 29. Miles ran for 118 yards, Chupe 50 to lead their respective teams. The Bluff finished with 361 yards of offense, 201 rushing, to Rockport-Fulton’s 114 and 95
