I'm going to start by saying I miss following 1 team for an entire season. Getting to know some of the players, seeing the same player every week. Really do miss that. But being here in the B/CS area I have 4 5A DII teams Playing at 3 Stadiums all within a 15 minute drive from the house. If none of those games interest me, within 30 minutes I can see smaller schools all the way down to 6 man within a 30 minute drive. An Hour drive and I can go from the Cypress area to Waco and over to Huntsville Madisonville, Montgomery. Its a good area to see some HS football. And when the playoffs roll around. Smaller Schools Play at the two CS Stadiums after the first round. And Merrill Green Stadium In Bryan has had at least 5 playoff games PER SEASON since I've moved up here.
Also following Calhoun I made 10 games a year until playoffs. Here I can get up to 13-15 in a regular season.

I attend SA Northside games and as many Cal games as I can get. I follow SA Taft particularly because this was my son’s school. Once playoffs hit I usually make Cal games and as many triple headers in the Alamodome I can get to. Three games in the dome is a long day but well worth it for me. I try to support all South Texas teams in the playoffs.

I attend Lovejoy games, and if I can't get to the away game for some reason I stop by Allen games. When traveling I've been known to watch games in whatever state I'm in. I've seen games in Ohio, Cali, Florida, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York, Indiana, Washington, Oregon, Nebraska, Colorado, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia to just name the ones I recall.

I've seen games in other states as well. Mostly places where I was stationed. Florida, Pensacola and Jacksonville. California, Encinal (home of Baseball HOF Player Willie Stargell). Massachusetts, Boston (powder puff football). and several stops In Texas where I followed some local teams. Aransas Pass, Calhoun, several in the Friendswood, Clear Lake area.

Hey that’s pretty cool! I’ve lived in other state and watched football in California, Georgia and Florida. I was very unimpressed with football in Cali, the stands are tiny and nowhere near the support and atmosphere like Texas football. However Georgia and Florida both rivaled Texas with fan support and great football. Them boys in South Georgia really get after it at the high school level. Valdosta Georgia was one of the best spots ever to catch a ball game.

American High Schools in Germany did play very good football. Move in's and move out's was a constant variable. Even during the season.

With the boycott of professional sports, this would be a great time to improve market for High School sports. Make the bands more entertaining and feature a student singing the National Anthem .

Valdosta not to far from there. Some big kids!!

Wow, that's impressive. Any stories or insights from watching HS games in all those places? How different from Texas? Texas was overall and far and away the best. Small town Ohio felt very similar to small town Texas. People stood on the fence, there were lawn chairs and some tailgating. You could tell it was the main source of entertainment and conversation. The next day at breakfast people were asking if I was new in town. When I told them I was working in the area and from Texas they joined me for breakfast and had a ton of questions about Texas HS football. Pennsylvania had no crowd and stadiums were in disrepair. Cali was unimpressive, I saw Big Privates and Big Public’s. The crowds at the big public schools had the energy of a below average 3A-4A that had given up on the team. Virginia had some talent and people were into it, but the crowds, facilities and atmosphere don’t compare to Texas. Florida was arrogant. Great talent. I went to a few decent stadiums, but the energy just doesn’t compare. Massachusetts was sad. Mainly parents show up, except for the “Big Thanksgiving game”, yes they play on Thanksgiving Morning. It’s their big rivalry game and the crowd is still - ehhh. Maybe a thousand or less at a Big School (1700 is a big school in Mass). A top 5A JV would smash a run of the mill Mass school of similar size. A private, St. John’s (I think), was too in state. Lovejoy would beat them and they would be an early playoff exit. Facilities and stadiums are a joke. A friend just told me about they voted against any improvements. When I went to some games to see a family member cheer the parents thanked me for coming, her own mom didn’t go to the games... Arizona has a few decent stadiums, ok talent - but not 22 deep.

The only out of state games I watched was Hawaii as I was stationed there during my son's high school years. He played for Moanalua the Menihunes. The school was mostly Japanese ancestry which meant the academics and baseball was very good. For football they often lacked the size of other teams who had more native Hawaiian guys and Samoans but they had attitude and held their own. Now crowd support wasn't bad sized but due to their culture they didn't get loud especially at baseball.

Your are right big ole boys with speed all over the field. The games down there between those teams were always razor close, talent in that area is spread out good so the district games were all usually tight games.

Until moving here I had not seen a 6-man football game. I have now seen enough to get the differences in the rules, yes it's more than just the number of players on the field. One in particular is the player that receives the ball from center cannot advance the ball past the line of scrimmage. Usually another player will get the ball and pitch or hand it to the QB. It does take some getting use to. But its a wide open, full throttle kind of football. Fans of the CHUCK AND DUCK, high scoring Spread offenses will love it.

I was hoping they would stay in so we could get a shot at beating them lol. Taft slowly getting better. The kids coming up had a really good fresh team 2 years ago and won district last year as JV. This should be the best defense Taft has seen with solid kids coming back and and good DB transfer from Brandeis. I think we might have a new OC from Southside HS. Taft coach said strongest and fastest team he’s had since his start 3 years ago. I think Taft will field a very competitive team.
