My gut tells me this fall season is not going to happen. There is a bunch of blow back going on from teachers and parents regarding some of the plans schools are putting together for classroom instruction and I really can't blame then in certain cases. Plans are all over the place as far giving parents a choice to do exclusive online or in person. Then you have some schools throwing out wacky scheduling if they do have in person instruction. In other words in promises to be chaos on steroids any which way it's implemented. And yes you have to place some concern for the teachers and staff as well as many of them unfortunately fall into the risk category to catch this stuff thanks to their age. Many of the young people being tested right now have either had the virus in very mild form or where totally asymptomatic. I don't think the kids themselves are in danger of going through a large outbreak much like some schools have with the flu or a measles outbreak if the stats are correct. But they can pass this stuff on to the older folks in charge at our schools and that's the problem the Teachers see and it's a very valid concern.
Having said this, I hope the UIL is seriously thinking of flipping the sports seasons for the sake of the kids and coaches for that matter because this carp is taking a toll on them too. We all hated the way the spring seasons ended for these kids and coaches with no closure for any of them. Senior recognition didn't occur at many schools. Playoffs for team sports and chances at winning championships on the track and field just evaporated and hard work put in since middle school and even before then did get a chance for a capstone. If it takes moving college and high school football to spring ( the NFL can fricken rot on the vine as far as I'm concerned), then so be it. It will be weird as heck in Sept not sweating my tail off in stands for the first couple of games and then ending the season at the Alamodome or hopefully Jerry World in December, but oh well. My wife and I can go go up to Lost Maples and enjoy the fall colors and do some of that stuff we defer on during the falls thanks to football. Big Bend is also nice in fall as well. We can do this in March and play until June. And think about this. The off season for 2021 will be the shortest ever! The new DC magazine will be out as while the current season is concluding.

What if Texas had an open division for '20? All schools that wanted to opt in can. Shortened season then playoffs.

NCAA D1 Ivy League suspends all Fall Sports. Plan to have Spring Sports in 2021. Has anyone ever accused you of being a debbie downer lol?? Well, the Nueces County ME requested a morgue trailer be ordered ASAP!

Everyday on my Twitter feed I see results of basketball tournaments going on right now. How is 10 guys/girls on the court that are sweating and breathing n each other, touching the same basketball over and over any different than a CB defending a WR and tackling him? Why is one safe now and another not safe next month?

This morning, Public Health officials issued an updated order for all independent school districts and private schools in El Paso County. All school systems shall not re-open schools for on-campus, face-to-face instruction until after Sept. 7, 2020. Virtual instruction shall be permitted as per a school system’s own plan and extracurricular sports and activities shall not take place until school systems re-open for on-campus instruction. The Health Order will be made available at t.co/BvROLowBPw under Health Orders. More: t.co/7Th0qk0en5

Dallas ISD super Michael Hinojosa was on MSNBC this morning, said he doubts fall football happens, left open spring possibility. Would definitely complicate things. Coaches, athletes are involved in other sports that would coincide; also some athletes enroll early in college

What if Texas had an open division for '20? All schools that wanted to opt in can. Shortened season then playoffs. So 2A Refugio vs. 6A Allen. Yeah! That sounds great!!! Well, if you are going to be dramatic about it then I'll elaborate. You open up the division to all the teams. See how many you have then group teams based off enrollment and region. So it is possible you do have 4A teams against 6A teams. You wont have that extreme case that you made.

I hear what you are saying man but even the best 4a team in the state doesn't want any part of a 6a team like NS, Duncanville, Katy, Etc. There is just way, waaaay tooooo much difference in size, speed, and of course depth.

Has anyone ever accused you of being a debbie downer lol?? Well, the Nueces County ME requested a morgue trailer be ordered ASAP! It’s not an urgent need. It’s to be prepared if it’s needed. It’s mainly because people are still dying from other issues outside of covid like usual and the increase in covid related deaths “might” put a strain on them. It’s a proactive move but not an urgent need. And I heard this from a close friend who works directly with the ME.

You fill up districts and group teams that are close as possible then fill out the rest with other teams. So most likely it would be 5A teams. But when it comes to East texas for instance a 6A school might play a smaller school. You would just have to see which teams want to play. Or maybe you dont have a season and just allow teams to schedule 10 non district games with no playoffs.

I would MUCH rather things stay on schedule and I tend to agree the risks are not as bad as what is being portrayed in the media in regards to sports (IE large outbreaks have not been traced back to reopened gyms for example) . But this is going to be overlooked for a number of reasons as I posted by the decision makers from the Feds on down to the local ISD's, primarily because the Teachers are going to be a driver in all this which be followed up by parents. And since we are in an election year, the louder voices will be heard even though their voices might not be as loud as they and the politicians think they are.
