PICO so its Judson Steele? @ G-P should be fun to bad nobody can watch. G-P boys are having practice with themselves regularly. Running drills and doing almost a practice. I like what I see, too bad all the puss guts aren't out there busting it and getting in cardio Why won’t y’all be able to watch the scrimmage?

Teachable moment. Last year we saw the results when Coach Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys lost his team. He had QB,RB and top supporting players and had a disappointing season. Now we see players taking over and making demands and setting out practice and kneeling during the National Anthem and the players are running the team in the NFL and not the coach. These coach's have lost their teams. Can you see that under Coach Vince Lombardi.? The Coach at Tampa Bay still has his team. He stood up to his players. Dallas Cowboy players are not making their best effort. $31 million dollar QB and can't make it to the playoffs. Coach Rick Rhoades did not stand up for his baseball coach and lost him to Pleasanton and lost players to Sinton and other teams. Coach Rhoades took the GP job and quoted Coach Gordon Wood philosophy "Coaches believing in coaches and coaches believing in players and players believing in players and players believing in coaches". I don't think anybody believes in anybody at GP anymore. We are seeing hints of players taking over at UT and A&M and Coach Saban lead a march for BLM at Alabama. NFL is committing suicide and college ball may be next.

When doing an analysis of GP Football or athletics for that matter it is hard to come up with anything but negativity. I remember when Long time GP fan John Ahlers went before the school board to discuss the direction of GP Athletics. It was about 15 plus years ago. John Ahlers got barbecued. He was already barred from Coach George Harris office. His son played with my son at GP. It has been chaotic in hiring and firing of coaches and suspected hanky pinky in hiring Coach Rick Rhoades who may Have caught a Tiger by the Tail and could not turn it loose. His son turned it loose. True, G-P has become the Homecomming game for the district. The pride of the football program we had is gone. Its so sad that EX GP players take their kids to other schools to play. They see what GP has become and want their kids to be proud so they leave. 4 years no playoffs is ridiculous. This year is a hope full year and I wish the program the best of luck, but honestly something has to drastically change to be successful. Its the Culture of the team and the traditions that have mostly gone or became very vanilla. Work ethic and old toughness was a thing and now its not. GP is not GP anymore

I think the last team to make playoffs was Blaines Senior year which was Coach As last year. GP football as we knew it is gone. More kids are going to different sports or extracurricular activities.

Portland has a house building increase planned but getting both negative Education and Athletics reviews. Waiting to get a Football program to see Coaching changes. They did well in Volleyball and Coach Smith still took heat for their final loss in the playoffs and GP fans who did not see the game did not give the 6 ft.3 inch girl DP had credit for helping beat GP. Baseball showed promise even after losing players to Sinton and others but the season got cancelled. Basketball did not make the playoffs after losing their star basketball player to injury trying to make a one arm tackle in football. Even Cuero has a down year but they seem to climb out of it and get rolling again.

Probably the best facility's in the area. In my opinion its like decorating a pile of crap. In the end its still crap. My son played football in JR high. He decided to play soccer instead. I didn't have a problem with it and now looking back at the last 3 years. It is now his senior year. I'm glad he didn't cause to know what G-P football was and what it has turned into now it just plain hurts. It used to be fun and we had a sense of pride rushing through the combined city's. People would pat us on the back and buy us meals if we were in a restaurant. Not like that anymore!
