Ironic: When Coach Rick Rhoades took over, GP had a policy of the players lined across the field and would hold up a small U.S. Flag for the National Anthem. Coach Rhoades ended that policy. GP has not made the playoffs since.

That is not just a piece of cloth on that stick. While I agree with 37 that it’s not just a piece of cloth on a stick, I also agree with Cochino in that I don’t think that’s is why GP has not made the playoffs in several years.

I think I just said I think it is Ironic. I can only speculate as to the fate of GP football. There is a poster over at FB commented several years ago that GP does not have the horses coming up to compete. He was correct but last year GP had size and QB and RB and did not fair well. One very important question you ask when you hire a Coach is what is his passion for the job.

In a 7-0 vote the lone finalist is Dr Michelle Cavazos from the Austin school district. She currently is the Chief Officer for administration at Shertz Cibilo.

Hooray for that. Anybody but someone from within.

Hooray for that. Anybody but someone from within. Just go to the GP Facebook acct and you will see countless GP teachers lining up. It won’t be long before they indoctrinate her into GP politics. Dr Clore folded like a cheap deck of cards, let’s see if she pushes back or folds too.

I’M a little surprised they selected an outsider. But some new blood may be good.
One potential drawback to an outsider is they may just use the GP job as a springboard to a larger district.

Dr. Diane Michelle Cavazos is fluent in Spanish and even has taught Spanish. She recently got her PhD at Texas State. She grew up in the valley. She has been married twice and divorced twice and has 3 children, The poster who went to school in Harlingen might know her. She is strong on science. She has been teacher and principal at a lot of different schools. I suspect she will be strong on academics. She writes poetry and you can buy her books on Amazon. She appears to be intelligent which is in short supply at GP. Athletics?,

So, are you saying that GP had equal talent...speed & size to any of the 4 schools from the district that made the playoffs in front of them?

Clem I think they had the talent to make the playoffs with better coaching. Players learn to tackle in Junior High and these players were weak tacklers and that has been a problem at GP for over 20 years and they have about the same coaches in Junior High for the last 20 years . You don't need size to tackle on defense but size helps on offense. It was hard to watch near 300 pounders on offense getting shoved backwards into their QB. GP had Joey Sauceda that squats over 600 pounds and a tough kid that racked up 150 yds the year before on Calallen. You need some form or attempt of balance. GP was pass happy on Alice and scored one TD. Fooled on a fake punt. They had lost a tall receiver because he did not know how to tackle and he really was not physical built to play defense or make a tackle. He was a tall good looking kid, polite and good personality and losing him in basketball most likely what caused GP to miss basketball playoffs. I have a picture in my senile mind of GP trying to arm tackle that kid from PLC. You don't have to have size to make a tackle. Bridge City won the coin toss and elected to receive. The Red and White team returned the kickoff to the 39. Standing 6 ft tall and 210 pounds and clocking 10.5 in the 100 yard dash, Steve Worster was a 2 time all state and vicious runner. He had rushed for 1,293 yds and scored 22 touchdowns. On the first play Steve Worster took the handoff from Redbird QB Joe Langston and started around right end. Worster turned to cut upfield and Lion cornerback Roy Spence ,who did not weigh over 155 pounds came flying in and hit him at the knees and you could hear it all over the stadium. That defense gang tackled Worster before he reached the line of scrimage and he ended the game with 24 carry's for 84 yds. Bridge City was a 3 touchdown favorite. Brownwood 14 Bridge City 0.

GPfannie55 you never miss a chance to not make a contribution with your post. I made a flattering observation on this lady and at the end I put Athletics and a ? mark and no I do not know her attitude toward athletics.
