Glad to see Steve Johnson is working on his football skills year round maybe will see him lined up at linebacker some this year since Calhoun will lose some good linebackers to graduation. Lone Star Dream Team Lone Star Dream Team. Team Adidas Sponsored 7v7 squad based in San Antonio, Texas. Linebackers Steve Johnson - Port Lavaca Calhoun Treylin Payne - Converswe Judson About how tall is Johnson?? If he is not at least 6' it will be nearly impossible for him to get major (power 5) offers to play LB. As sad is that is to say it is true. However, it sounds like he is one hell of a FB type kid and there are still several major college FB teams that utilize the FB. Kid must be one hell of a player so I sure hope that he gets his shot to play bigtime Saturday ball.

When I graduated in 1956, I was 6 ft. 1 in and 172 lbs and I was big enough to play DI football. Now if you are that size, you need to be 4.6 or faster in the forty to play DI football.

Kid must be one hell of a player so I sure hope that he gets his shot to play bigtime Saturday ball. he's 6'2 210lb Good God Then he has the frame to carry 240-250 with ease and play in the middle at LBr! Easily the size (height) that these college coaches really look for. I myself hate it. A kid that played with my boy was about 6'1" legit, maybe a tad over and 275-280. The young man was powerful, explosive, and cat quick playing D-line. NOBODY, including some of the best teams in the state could block him even doubling down on him his senior year yet the majority of the power 5 conferences saw the height and didn't give him the time of day basically. He ended up with offers from BG, SMU, Rice, and a few others but if he'd been 6'3" with his abilities he would have had his pick of just about anywhere he wanted to go. I cannot wait to see how he progresses and playing 7 on 7 with some of SAs top athletes should really help him with reading/reacting, and getting to the ball with good angles. By the way, you should have seen that young man, another big lineman, and my son load hay at my place! They made those 60-65 lb bales look like they were about 10 lbs the way the threw em up on the trailer 6 & 7 high and almost knocked the one on top of the stack off doing it! lmao

Calhoun’s Steve Johnson’s thoughts on UIL suspending events.
Victoria Advocate:
Keep on running Calhoun’s Steve Johnson holds the school career rushing record.
But he also enjoys competing in track and field, and is certain it benefits him in football.
“I’ve always enjoyed track,” he said. “As time goes on and the heavier I need to get and the more the build I need to get to take all my hits for football, track’s a good way to keep me in shape.”
Johnson ran the 100-meter dash and a leg on the 400 and 800 relays at the Jack Adcock Gobbler Relays.
He doesn’t know when his next track meet will be, but plans to remain active.’
“This is a time when you’re either going to stay home and be lazy or you’re going to go out there and do extra work to make yourself better,” he said. “So it’s going to separate the weak from the strong.”

One thing Calhoun lost in the drop to 4A is spring ball. Looks like they will have to adjust a little.

Calhoun 2020 Football Schedule Aug 28 Navarro Sep 4 @ Stafford Sep 11 El Campo Sep 18 Bryan Rudder Sep 26 @ Houston 2nd Baptist Oct 2 OPEN Oct 9 @ Beeville Oct 16 @ Tuloso-Midway Oct 23 CC Miller Oct 30 @ Alice Nov 6 Calallen As Per Pigskin Prep Hoping season starts as planned I am going to try to make the Calhoun El Campo game to see some great running backs with Calhoun Steve Johnson & Jarius Stewart returning and El Campo they have all three running backs coming back from a team that was 10-3 with national recruit running back Rueben Owens El Campo is going to be really good this year. USC issued an offer to 2023 El Campo (TX) running back Rueben Owens on Monday. The rising sophomore has emerged as a national prospect candidate in the 2023 class with offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Texas, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, UTSA and William & Mary. I saw some Video of Calhoun Jarius Stewart working out and running drills he looks bigger and faster finally got a couple college football offers to play Defensive back in college and I am sure he will have more offers before the season ends should be one of the best DB'S in the district and area. Steve Johnson going to be even stronger and bigger and both have been hitting it hard on staying in shape.
