OK, Next up Bellaire Episcopal Knights. I will be the first to admit I had never heard of them until they showed up on our schedule. Anybody got any info on them? Same thing for Houston Second Baptist the following week.

DCTF Magazine has them bringing back 9 on Offense and 5 on Defense. they were 9-1 last year. This will be their first game of the season. Looks like the Video Salty posted Shows the Incoming QB. Looks like a kid that can really run. And he will have plenty of protection from a massive OL featuring 2 D1 Committs and another with multiple offers. Calhoun may have to use up clock like they did in the 3rd Qtr vs El Campo to pull this one off. With only 5 starters returning on their Defense we may have a good shot in this one. And being their first game we can hope for some rust on their part.

Bellaire Episcopal has 680 students. the school is on a 34 acre Campus in the Bellaire part of Houston. Being a Private school they can give tuition assistance to attract students.

Every year Bellaire has a ton of kids go D1. They look like a salty bunch, should be a good game.

Keep getting a couple stops each half and get the ball back in the hands of the TO, and it will he lights out for just about any team we face.

For Calhoun the Non-District part of the schedule is over and luckily we got 5 games in. Finished 4-1 with the 1 loss to La Vega who was the #1 4A-1 Team at the time we played. 4 fumbles that first game made me wonder if we had an issue there. Since we have not had more than 2 fumbles and I can't remember losing more than 1. That was this last game when the defender did a nice job stripping the ball from the QB2. Wins over solid teams, yes Stafford was young and struggling a bit but El Campo #6 in state at the time, and Episcopal SPC Defending State Champs, Houston Second Baptist, Ranked in the Tapps 11 man all classification rankings were good wins. Calhoun has put up 2121 rushing Yards and 27 TD in the 5 games. So we got the work in. But there still more improving that needs to be done. The bye week this week will allow us to heal up a little. Only 1 player out that I'm aware of and we can add some new wrinkles to the offense and defense. Then get ready to face this talented district. Starting with a trip to visit the Trojans of Beeville. Unfortunately they have the bye as well so they will be ready. Good luck to our D15 teams playing this week. GATA

Season ended second Place Finish in district and a second round exit in the playoffs. 9-3 record bring the record in the Whitaker Era to 131-60. 35 playoff games with a record of 22-13. All in all a good season and the boys fought their tails off every single week. I'm proud of them, they represented well.
After a couple days to reflect and look ahead. I think the Defense has got to figure out how to slow down Spread offenses. Looking at the roster we have a lot of kids returning next year. Several will be Juniors next year and there are a bunch of them in the trenches. LB group will be strong next year as well.
Everyone is disappointed a little unless you win it all. I would have liked another game or two but there is still a lot of football left to watch this season. And Maybe next year won't be so jacked up for the fans.

I don’t think it was just the fans that were off. This whole ordeal affected the players as well. The constant strain of abnormality hung over this season like a rotten egg. Hopefully next season this crap will be gone or next to gone, and normalcy will return for all.

Congratulation to Steve Johnson on his College choice.
Calhoun's Johnson commits to Lamar University
Steve Johnson had an outstanding football career at Calhoun.
Johnson set the school career rushing record and helped lead the Sandcrabs to three playoff appearances.
But Johnson’s senior year did not go as he planned.
Johnson rushed for 2,165 yards and 28 touchdowns, but he had to battle COVID-19 before the season and missed Calhoun’s area playoff loss to Boerne after suffering a concussion in practice.
“I was never really in tip-top shape to play like I was my sophomore and junior years,” Johnson said. “Going out my senior year, I knew there would be bumps in the road, but I was trying to overcome them. Not being able to play that (playoff) game showed me how much I have to appreciate every moment I have.”
Johnson will have a chance to get back on the field next season after committing to play at FBS Lamar University in Beaumont.
Johnson had eight offers before deciding to commit to the Cardinals.
“The way they have their engineering program is just outstanding,” he said. “My main focus was what’s going to be the best for me and my future family and that was really something that stood out for me.”
Johnson is looking forward to playing on the Division I level.
“You look at the competition they face,” he said. “Every college is going to have athletes, but these people play people like Texas A&M. So being able to go out there and show my talents against the biggest kids and going to a program that’s had some success. I just want to be one of the big factors in rebuilding that program.”
Johnson was recruited to Lamar as a running back, but will do whatever is necessary to get on the field.
“If I go there and they decide I’m better at linebacker, I’ll go do that,” he said. “It doesn’t matter where they put me on the field. I’ll work at anything they want me to.”
Johnson plans to make his commitment official Feb. 3, national signing day.

Maybe they will look for some other Calhoun Players in the future.
