Yes he does. And they have some big kids on the OL and DL that if they continue to develop will be monsters in the trenches. I liked what I saw Salty.
Those boys are a great group of kids...i know the QB and the fullback.. Should also go see #34 Chambers for the 7th grade A team..i wont hype him up but might want to go see for yourself ..
This is a article on the kid that played FB/LB for the 8th grade "A" team it will be interesting where Coach Wit uses him next year in high school offense or defense..
Eighth grade Travis Fiddlers football player Steve Johnson showcased his talents this weekend at the Football University’s camp in San Antonio.
Johnson was named Gatorade award winner for best overall junior high athlete.
“It was surprising at first because there were so many top athletes at that camp,” Johnson said.
“After going one-on-one and seven on seven you see who is going to be good. I could tell it was going to be me,” Johnson added.
He competed against the offense as a linebacker, and through the drills, on-field play and the eye test Johnson out performed the competition.
“I had the hot hand at the time,” Johnson stated.
This was not the first time Johnson shined in a competition with some of the best talent in the nation. This past summer he was nominated to attend the FBU Top Gun camp in South Carolina and was named the fourth best player in the camp.
Johnson accredited a lot of his success to his coach/trainer Vinson Phillips.
“Coach has helped a lot. When I first started with Vinson I was real slow and weak. He showed me technique and footwork. Since he has trained me I have become better and better, “Johnson said.
Phillips trains youth athletes in the Calhoun County area to prepare them for the upcoming football seasons and knew Johnson was a standout.
“I’ve been training Steve for 3 years. He gives 100 percent all the time and works on becoming a better athlete by applying life skills, integrity, teamwork and leadership in his quest for greatness,” Phillips said.
“It is a great feeling to see one of my athletes receive such an achievement. Over the past few years there are athletes in our program that have shown that they can compete with anyone. I’ve had six athletes qualify for the FBU National combine with kids from all of the 50 states,” Phillips added.
The future Sandcrabs is looking forward to leaving eighth grade and further his career at the high school level.
“I am very excited. Hopefully I do well. It is all up to God. I have been working hard and waiting for this moment,” Johnson said.
