We got hammered last Tuesday evening at our place. I was watching the radar closely just before 10pm because of the reports of hail on the NW side of SA (across town from us).
I watched that storm go across SA and straight towards Convers, Schertz, and Cibolo. 5 minutes before it started pounding us the radar showed NOTHING south of IH 10. About 3 minutes after looking at that radar image I heard the wind kick up so I turned on my back yard lights and saw it start raining. About a minute after that the first hail stone (golf ball sized) came down. I ran for the door and started my wife's new Equinox up and headed to the barn and just before getting it pulled under a stone the size of a baseball came through the back glass. I was stuck under that 30'x40' shed for the next 10 minutes while it pummeled us with Baseball size and larger stones (up to softball). It was a sobering reminder of how strong and cruel Mother Nature can be. I watched the electric fence wire bounce 3'-4' up and down and eventually get snapped in two (multiple spots). The sound under that tin roof was deafening even inside that car.
When it stopped hailing I went into the house to check on my wife and son and they were shell-shocked to say the least. There were hail stones all over his and our bedrooms as those two rooms are on the west side of the house and do not have protection of a porch overhang. The stones came through double pane glass and shattered the wooden shutters even! Our house is only 2 years old and the standing seam metal roof is dented to hell and we had 5 windows broken.....the 2 in our bedrooms even have broken frames! My Nissan Maxima and my son's Trailblazer are destroyed and I'm sure will be totaled Wednesday when the adjuster looks at them. My Chevy Diesel pickup will likely be totaled out as well as the side and top of it are beat to hell.
The cars (his and mine) had windshields SMASHED, mirrors broken, and literally hundreds of dents....NOT DINGS. My truck also had a cracked up windshield even though it was parked sideways to the angling stones and also had the side glass broken out as well.
