He pitched well but I think they left him in too long. He isn't going to get you 60-70 pitches Agreed it looks like that now for sure. We done that before too! He just needed one out, and a pass ball on a strike let the runners move up. On the plus side, he may an option to come in and finish out these games.

So I guess the pitch count is why Rumsfeld was lifted with 2 outs in the 7th on Saturday with a no-hitter? To, why would this year be any different than the last 10 years I been following Calallen? They pretty much rely on 2 pitchers every year even when they do have a 3rd or fourth option. It did look like Broughton pitched well against Moody the other night. That's very true. Difference at least sometime in those early years you've been following (I've been following about 20) is the majority of the pitchers didn't come into the season with lingering issues with arms or other ailments that were either under the radar ready to become an issue or existing and the two arms could carry the team through the playoffs. Take what you will from that, but I kind of tie it in to rise of the year around/select league play and the now more awareness of the overuse of arms. If you look at the playoff history during that span I would venture to say we've won the majority of the series in the playoffs in two games. Now we've had some solid pitchers the last few years who are playing ball at the next level, but many of them themselves had arm issues and couldn't go a game three because they didn't want to jeopardize their health and rightfully so. So like in 2015 in the playoffs when we get to game three against Georgetown, the pitcher for the first game tried to give it a go and was out early because he was still feeling the effects of pitching the two nights before and then we had to break the glass in case of an emergency and bring in a kid who hadn't pitched since early March in a tourney and it showed and unfortunately we ended up losing that series. The kid did as well as could be expected considering the circumstances and did settle down eventually. The one thing I have noticed over the last few years in particular in the playoffs is we have lost to teams that had double digits in the loss column. Georgetown was one of them, but after seeing the series and looking over the records I understood why. They used many of their non district games to develop their pitching staff and have them game ready and the drop of the hat and in district play. Their coach already was using a pitch count system and if the kid no matter who was on the mound hit that number, he brought in a fresh arm to finish it off. That way the kid not only got his reps, but also the real game feel such as working on pick offs that you just can't replicate in practice and more importantly the actual pressure of just being on the mound. Alamo Heights last year had a similar look to them away from their national top pro prospect pitcher who got drafted by Astros organization. We just haven't been in that mindset to let as many arms pitch throughout the balance of the season to have them game ready come playoffs and then it becomes pitching by committee when options one and two have ran out of gas or others you were going to rely on can't go for other issues.

We have been very fortunate to have some very talented pitchers over the last few years, yes we always tend to lean on two pitchers. I remember winning a 3 game series against Lake Travis where we lost the first game in a pitchers dual and that same came back for a game 3 victory the next day after throwing well over 100 pitches the day before. I saw all 3 games in person, heck of a performance by that young man. That pitcher is now in the Cubs organization and actually made the end of the season pitching roster last year seeing action.

Thank you for the score update. We have lousy Baseball reporting from the TV people. They would rather run Car commercials and ambulance chaser commercials.

Gc.com has almost any of the playoff games. You don't get the play by play unless you pay but you can get the score, runners and count. I can't seem to find the Cal games on the radio anymore
