Definitely will tell how far each team has come.
Zach Hopkins starting Rb will be out 3 to 4 weeks with a strained knee.
Damond Lafond the leading receiver from last year transferred to Refugio over the summer I hear. but will be replaced by a 6'7" Freshman.

Yep ! He's very good basketball player. He showed a lot of speed last Saturday at the intra-squad scrimmage catching three long TD passes.

Week 4. Cuero At Calhoun. I think we may find out a lot about both teams in this game. I think PLC will find out quite a bit before that game hh. LaVernia may be a pretty good 4a team again and Somerset should be about the same as last year. CC Carroll I suspect should be about the same as last year with some pretty talented kids coming back as well.
PLC will need to get busy those first 4 games that's for sure.

Good looking kid!!
Usually when kids are that tall at that young of an age they resemble a skeleton with skin. He is pretty well put together for his height and age!

Your right Clem and I'm not discounting any of the first three games. Just that as I see it the first two we will still be ironing out our Offense and defense and the next three will really be where we SHOULD BE rounding into the team that Calhoun fans can expect to see during District play. Not that we wont continue to get better during district.

Hopefully PLC will have that offense clicking better this year with less balls hitting the ground. That'll be a big key to the early season success most likely.

I think all of them do to a degree. All our district opponents are more run first but still sling the ball around. some more than others. Somerset will be throwing from the first play. that's what they do and it's good work for our DB's and LB's in pass coverage. That has been a weak point for us over the seasons. LaVernia, Carroll, Cuero and Brazosport all run and throw. Calhoun is the only team in 24-5A that runs the ball 90% of the time.(or more)

He's pretty well put together. In the 7th and 8th grade, he was the starting QB.

Martinez was the starting Qb on the JV team in 2013 that was undefeated. He is a very capable thrower and is accurate, but unlike QB's in the past, he will run and is very fast.

Good to see Cuero getting back to its old ways, playing good solid football. Of course Im pulling for my Bulldogs just north of Cuero. Ought to be a fun year in 15-4a good luck! Danged that 4A thing just seems weird, heck Yoakum still is below 500 in attendance!
