Yeah last nights JV game was a head scratcher. The Jr RB and Sophomore FB were injured, I believe dislocated elbows- one possibly with a compound fracture. My son went in full time at RB and said that he felt elbows were being targeted in his opinion as he was helmeted several times in the elbow as well. Dunno, if so very unfortunate, however I realize that some players are more "aggressive" in nature and that it's part of the game. I won't take anything away from Tivy as excuses come a dime a dozen. My boy had the lone rushing TD on a very nice run and gained plenty of yards so IMO rough play or not, just play the game. I will cite that the officials were lackluster in the fact that after the two injuries they allowed some rough housing to go on. My kid was horse collared twice, face masked once at the 6 yard line and another receiver done the same way, whistles were blown way too late considering two boys had to leave in ambulances. Were elbows targeted? Maybe, by a select few. Did the officiating crew encourage rough play? IMO yeah. A few flags thrown could've easily discouraged the horse collars and face masking I saw and reviewed later on film. Like i told my boy, 'You were productive out there and unfortunately this can be part of the game.Just take the frustration and anger and put it out on the field next game, you can't win them all.' He also said (almost funny to me) that he was eye gouged in the pile up. He said he saw the kid reaching up under his face mask, crawl his fingers up over his lips, nose and then was poked repeatedly in the eyes. 1. No, that's not cool at all- serious injury could've occurred 2. I can't believe my son didn't realize what was about to happen 3. I instructed him on two tactics to discourage such behavior A. Crank your chin to restrict his hand movement and cinch his fingers in pain and B. when your dumb@$$ feels fingers crawl over your mouth again pretend they're french fries lol. Hey man, we lost and sadly I think Tivy ran a total of 3-4 plays to beat us like we stole something. That read option- as simple as it is to defend- cut thru us like a hot knife thru butter and not an adjustment was made. Could we have won the game? IMO yes, but that'd required adjusting the defense, yelling at some of the kids who just flat out were blocking like their joints were rusted and playing some football. Bottom line, Tivy executed very well and when you have the advantage of being able to just option up the field for chunks of yardage and not have flags thrown on about 5 would-have-been key penalties, life is simple: Just continue to whoop ss. Hats off to Tivy for coming in and recovering from a 12-0 deficit for the win. Tivy Fight sure as heck didn't die last night. We threw in the QB who had been out for four weeks and basically benched the kid who won us 3 in a row, but it's not my job to coach and in the end- I support my Buffs. See you at tonights game!

Sorry to hear about the injuries to your team and tactics that you described. I can honestly tell you that they dont coach that way at Tivy at all. Im really suprised Tivy won the game considering they have pulled up ther best players to varsity this year due to injuries. Best of luck the rest of the year!!

I figured a lot of JV kids got moved up what with all the injuries and all. We do the same thing Antlers and that is why are JV never goes undefeated. They are undefeated though this year even though we have several stud soph on varsity getting playing time. Our freshman are going to run the table as well as I do not see anyone left on the schedule that can beat us. We should be a contender for the next 4 years or so but then maybe a drop off as I watched the 7th grade team last week and though they won 30-12 against NBC, they really didn't look that impressive to me. Do you have any idea what the JV score was between Steele and Tivy? I cannot remember but I think it was a pretty good game.

He's a Jr and about 6'6" and 250 or so. I think they had him starting out on varisty but then moved him down so that he could get some reps. Our Sr TE (Moen) is a beast himself at 6'3"+ and around 235-240.
