Well, here we go. My son is now a freshman and Saturday was their first full pad/full contact workout. I went and am glad I did. We have about 75 or so freshman out for football which was a little shocking considering we had right at 190 in 7th grade and about 170 last season. My son said they lost a total of about 20 players to Clemens on the redrawn borders and many more decided not to play. He said there were no starters lost to SC from our A team last year and only one A team player decided not to play football this year and is concentrating on soccer instead. These kids got after one another pretty good Saturday morning and in fact in the fist part of practice they ran some tackling drills utilizing a center, QB, & RB on one side against one D lineman and either a LB or DB. There were some serious collisions to the point it brought huge cheers from the varsity players sitting on the benches outside the locker room about 50 yards from the field. Our scrimmage is this coming Friday morning against SA Johnson. I think our boys will be ready to hit someone other than each other. Here's a pick of a few of the freshman D lineman & LBs.

Can't wait to see how your boy progresses throughout his high school career. Freshman football is a fun experience alright, how he enjoys every minute of it! And only 75 freshman are playing this year over there? That's kinda small considering we're gonna have over 100 freshman playing this fall.

I heard there were about 80-85 freshman at SC. My brother's step son is a freshman on the team. He told me that their 1st team looked really good Saturday in there scrimmage but they did look to have much depth beyond that first team. And yes, I'd expect a lot more kids to play at Clemens than at Steele do to the fact the freshman class at SC is about 200 more kids so it makes since.

Awesome for you and your boy. Hopefully he has a great year. The problem for Tivy is our LB's are as big as our DL, I think against passing teams we will be ok because they are quick but running teams like Steele will be tough. Our DL avg about 200 and our LB are about 205.

The problem for Tivy is our LB's are as big as our DL, I think against passing teams we will be ok because they are quick but running teams like Steele will be tough. Our DL avg about 200 and our LB are about 205. That is real good size for the LBs. Might be a tad small for the D lineman but to be honest sometimes those 'smaller', strong, quick lineman are awesome. SV seems to really do well with lineman built that way. It makes it hard to straight up but with good quickness it allows them to shoot gaps and such. The only drawback is it can open up seams for fast RBs if a tackle is missed at the LOS. I'm very much looking forward to our games (both varsity and fresh) against Madison, Judson, WL, and Tivy. I think all should be really great games. We will see how we look tomorrow morning in our scrimmages at Blossom against SA Johnson. Gotta have him up at the school at 0630!

kids looked good today in the scrimmage with Johnson. The O looked great actually and scored 4 or 5 times. The D started out a bit slowly and Johnson got a couple of TDs on a QB keeper and a nice pass play. Their QB was far and away their best player. However, our coaches made some adjustments with our kids being a bunch are playing at different positions than the last couple of years and they responded immediately and promptly shut them down.
I had several friends go with me including one with his son who played on our two teams that went to the finals and won one. The young man had not seen this group of kids play yet and he made a couple of comments that made me smile. He was very impressed with the group with their size and team speed.
Last, I met the freshman head coach Thursday evening and he is a great guy. My son loves him and says he's a great motivator. This coach told me this was the hardest working bunch of kids he's been involved with yet and that they've been a pleasure to be with every minute of two-a-days. Now that is the kind of comment a parent loves hearing.

Good luck this season, I'm sure your son plans to pancake a few all for the glory of SK. I will try to attend a game or two myself as we always seem to end up at a few of SK's games. SK All Day!!

Thanks 2016. He and the team did well against Johnson in their scrimmage Friday. Now the real thing starts Thursday against Madison. As I've told him, now you'll see what 5a athletes look like! LOL With Madison, Judson, Westlake, and Tivy the first four weeks we'll have our hands full!

Thanks Antlers and Brodiescomics.
He was in a really good mood last night so I take it he feels they are ready to get after it. They better be because Madison will have some truly good athletes out there today!
We are missing our #1 DB for the next few games as he broke a bone in his leg late in the summer. His big bro is our varsity starting CB. This kid is going to be special and by his JR year he will be a lockdown CB for sure. I sure hope he can make it back for the WL and Tivy games as I know they'll air it out on us!

Game #1 success Steele A 46 Madison A 0 Steele B 14 Madison B 6 My boy's team looked very, very sharp......both in their game digs and their play! Yes, I was shocked to see them come out in last year's new Varsity Nike Unis........complete except for no logos (stickers)on the helmets. Holy crap, there are many many varisty teams that wish they had game day unis this nice. Talk about lucky kids and I told him as much! Anyway, we dominated Madison from start to finish. The great news is that our O-line looked unbelievably good. In fact, they didn't have one game last year where they blocked anywhere near as good. I seriously doubt our RBs were touched by a d-lineman more that 2 times the entire game unless it was 10+ yds downfield! Our D gave up some yards early in the game and then adjusted and completely shut them down. Big, strong, fast, and nasty........the makings of Steele football varsity players in a couple year so it seems. QB looked good and threw some nice balls and the RBs are well, great. One, our #1 kid you'll see in the pics below (#30) is dominant! He is about 5'8" 175 legit 4.60 speed and benched about 230 this year. #52 next to him is just shy of 6'1" to give you a size comparisson. He only had about 5-6 carries adn probably had 120+ yds and gave a couple kids some headaches.

Gee Whiz... what the heck are you feeding those kids down there? lol Leave it to Steel to have a big O'l pipeline.. I'll bet practice gets kinda mean with all the great kids waiting in the wings! You may have told me/everyone previously... what position again does your son play? Here's to wishing the Steel Freshman team a Great Season... and injury free!
