I had no idea, got me on that one!! Lol There didn't use to be overtime. How young are you? There was even a state championship game in the 80s that stayed in a tie. In 1987 Alice scored on the final play of our playoff game with Sugarland Clements to make it 21-20. Our coach went to ask the referees who was ahead on penetrations so he could know to go for 2 or 1. Alice was up on penetrations so we just went for the extra point field goal to tie the game and we would win on penetrations. Well son of a .... lol these dudes blocked our extra point. When in the hell does that ever happen. The game would have ended 21-21 and we would have advanced on penetrations. Great season though. Sugarland Clements had beat nationally ranked Sugarland Willowridge just a few weeks before. And this was our first round opponent. Not like now where you have Laredo and the valley. I'm telling you back in the day Alice, Carroll and Victoria High could compete with the best and this was at the 5A level.

Lol They did run into our kicker but I guess since he blocked the ball it was legal. I think that's how the rule went.
