Ya G-P had some shotputers return from the state meet. Bringing home gold. I Saw the spring scrimmage and things are going well. Bisby his way and did what he wanted. Some players are in positions not accustomed to. All new recruits are filling in slowly.

He is a powerful kid that runs the rock like a full grown man!

Just returned from the Victoria West Spring game. I only watched the 1st half and the score was 21-7 Red.
Red started last years backup QB (I think it was Navarro) and he did well. Looked impressive on his runs and was able to complete multiple short passes for good 6-8 yard gains. Team was able to move the ball down the field in small chucks at a time. 5 yard run, 6 yard pass.
#23 Peoples and #11 also stood out on offense.
Black started Q. Bryant at QB. Fist play from scrimmage was an 80 yard TD run. Not much stood out after that. He did miss Armstrong on 3 or 4 deep passes. He seemed tentative and was unable to get the short passing game going.
With Navarro at QB, Bryant and Peoples will be able to run the ball and move it with the short passing game. Throw in #11 for the mid to deep pass and the O should be in good shape. There are some young, big lineman that should develop quite nicely.
Defense needs to get nasty. Armstrong seems to have the swagger to lead them, but he needs some help. #40 for the Red team had several solid hits and will do well at OLB. There are 2 big interior lineman on the defense who need to slim down a bit and work on their quickness, but I see some potential in them.

So, in your opinion, will West be better, worse, or about the same type of team as last year?

Always is when two fine programs from our area face off, regardless of which team it is! Very excited about South Texas football this upcoming season.

I'm sure we'll hear all about the weak 31-4a district this year AGAIN. One thing is for certain, FB is on the rise.

So, in your opinion, will West be better, worse, or about the same type of team as last year? Hard to tell. Hopefully better, but really can't get a good feel on where they are until the 1st scrimmage. I do know that in previous years, the receivers (other than Harrison) had a ton of drops. I did not see enough improvement in that area. There were still many balls that were dropped, including 2 in the end zone. There was also a fumble inside the 5 yard line which seemed to be a problem before as well. I do know that have tons of speed with Girdy, Peoples, and Bryant. They are all underclassmen and should develop nicely. Not sure if this is their year, but they're close.
