Good pitcher's duel. Not much hitting for either team. Travis Geiser pitched a great game and really didn't deserve to get the L. Rebound and get ready for V West on Tuesday.

Geiser certainly pitched well. Shame he did not get any run support. As I recall, the winning run got on base on a fluke shot off of Travis heel (may have hit pitchers plate) and bounced just over SS head. Take that away and its a different game. GP has to hit better. Also had a couple of baserunning errors, or caught stealing.

G-P gets a shot at Victoria West in a seemingly must-win situation tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. in Portland. It would really hurt their chances of being tops in the district by starting 0-2 with both losses at home to the top two teams in our district.

Good luck, pull this one out. Calhoun has a pretty crafty pitcher that we saw in one of our games. Have to be on your toes for that one as well.

VW beat RF 15-5 RF beat GP 5-4 all that was preseason so this should be the one that get away from GP as well, it be tough to start the district 0-2 and still play Beeville and PLC at home. GP will have to bring lots of wood to the game in order to stay alive in a very tough road schedule.

The Pirates came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat us in the bottom of the 7th. But, the sticks will need to break out to win this game. We can't win having just 3 base hits like we did against Victoria East. East has better pitching than West and I believe the bats come alive tonight and G-P wins at home 8-4.

R-F and GP also tied 2-2 in a game with RF throwing its #3 pitcher and RF won the tiebreaker cuz RF put 8 base runners to 3B to 4 for GP.
In the 7-6 loss R-F in the GP Tourney, RF was down to some little used - I think this was their only varsity game this year- Soph pitchers in GP's come back win.
The 5-4 game won by RF is a better measure of what GP has since RF #1 Rex Hoyt and GP #1 Travis Geiser fgace each other and was a heckof game as both kids pitched their heart out.
VE was nailed by RF 11-2 by RF's #3 over spring break after a 4 mandatory days off for RF kids by order from the RF Athletic Director. VW put 15 runs on RF and 7 of them in the first inning off RF #2 Reid Wagner - who can touch 88- 90 mph, but has had some control issues in some games this year.
That should help put things in a better perspective.
Hope GP gets back to the Area Finals- Gieser and crew are good kids.

Slugger...I though VW had 3 runs in the 1st and 4 runs in the 2nd against R-F. I guess the Alice game must have gotten cancelled.

JD - you're right - that was the 3/8 game vs. Victoria West in the Victoria Tourney that VW plated 7 runs on Wagner in the 1st.
No Alice game on RF schedule.
It's District games only from today forward for RF.

The Pirates have a good ball club. They will contend for their district title.

Sinton beat Ingleside 9-8 @ home after Ingleside gives up a 5-0 lead and a drop fly ball in the 7th to score the winning run. Ingleside seem to be heading in the right direction. They also beat GP as well

Sounded like GP was giving VW a game last night until the last inning. Last I saw on maxpreps the score was 16-6. It was 7-6 going into the 7th. These are the types of games where you need that #3 and #4 pitcher to pull you through.

Was a good ballgame for 6 innings, but the bottom fell out in the top of the 7th. Just like I expected, West doesn't have the pitching East does, but they really hit the ball well. Combine their timely hitting with some errors, hence you give up a big inning. We really got ourselves in a hole, losing our first two district games at home. Now, it looks like we'll be in a dogfight to try to get one of the last two playoff spots. Season overall record is now 7-9 with two ties in tournament play.
