Knowing the combined knowledge and experience of the members of this forum can overcome any obstacle, I need some advice.
I can not get rid of this %$#&* gopher that keeps popping up.
Previously, and rarely over the years one would pop up now and again. No problem. Let the water hose run down his hole for a while and rinse the sand back down the hole. Gopher goes away to a drier and more hospitable location. Not this bone head. So, I get some traps and some poison bait. Simple instructions. Find a tunnel between mounds and in it set two traps facing in opposite directions with bait between them. Here is the problem. It's all sand so it collapses and you can't find the tunnel or burrow nor can you find his tunnel up to the mound as he plugs it behind him so the hole only goes down a short way. Anyone been able to figure this out? It's making me crazy. I actually saw the little peckerwood the other day sticking his head up pushing out some sand from a mound and if I had my .22 with me I would have blasted him city limits or not.

Did you try the "Carl Spackler" Bill Murray method? j/k
I have the bleepity bleeps in my yard again as well. Seems like this recent rain has brought them back. They disappeared when it was hot and dry. The neighbor's cats try to sneak up and stakeout for them to no avail. Yeah, I had the same problem with the poison pellets in trying to find the hole in the sand. Now I know that a skunk does not cover the hole like a gopher, so I won't make that mistake again. All I can say is try to drown 'em out with a hose and put something at the other mounds to trap 'em if they try to escape that way. If they come out the hole with the hose then play "Whack-a-Gopher!" I am not patient like the cats to sit there all day waiting for the gopher to pop it's head up. One cat almost got lucky.

I've got something leaving holes all over my yard. My neighbors all have those wooden-looking deer statues in their yards. I guess they scare away the critters. I think I need one too. And a shotgun.
On an unrelated note, I never imagined I'd run into so many animals living out here. I'm not THAT far out of the city. Yet I see deer in my front yard every night, along with squirrels, raccoons, and possums. Top that off with finding A FREAKING SNAKE IN MY FREAKING LIVING ROOM has taken some of the fun out of country living.

:-[A Bluff Rat having an issue with a gopher? Oh the irony. Seriously, I have never seen a gopher down here and I'm a native South Texan. Out here we have issues with skunks, possums, rattle snakes, and javelinas. An occasional raccoon might show up as well as a coyote.

No rattlesnakes but i guess couple of grass snakes have made it inside the house and my cat has a fun time with those.

I have had two (too) close encounters. The first was out fishing on a paddle boat with my cousin when I was 14 and he was 12. Saw the snake a coming towards us rather aggressively on top of the water. I swear I walked on water for that 40 feet to shore. The second time I was 17 and was putting the boat in the water at a lake private boat ramp. I backed the boat trailer into the water and opened up the pickup door to hop out and release the boat off the trailer. There was a Water Moccasin all coiled up right there next to the door. He struck and hit the heel of my boot as I was high kicking back to the pickup. I think I had to change my shorts. It took three guys with two shovels and a .22 rifle to capture and kill that Water Moccasin. I respect but am not scared of Rattle Snakes, but Water Moccasins are another animal. In my backyard I have had roadrunners, deer, peacocks, bobcat (chasing a peacock), javelina, skunks, opossums, raccoons, scorpions galore, a few tarantulas, many snakes, and a ton of brown recluse spiders (fiddlebacks). Had some huge brown recluse spiders make it into the house. My wife enjoys chasing 'em down when she comes across them. I have the gophers as well. Water hose and cats seem to get rid of the gophers.

Yeah, definitely fear water moccasins. Rattler's at least give you a warning. When I was younger, my cousins and I were playing ball and the ball ended up in the garage near a small propane tank in a corner, but slightly under the house (house on piers instead of slab). I got on my belly to reach for the ball, looked to my left, and saw a big fat water moccasin coiled up and staring at me.

Since I moved here in 93 I have had the occasional gopher pop up. About one every other year. The water hose down the hole let it run for a while and they moved on after just once like that. But Nooooooo not this )&)#%@&. Doesn't bother him at all. Not Mr. Navy Seal Gopher. He has ignored that, taken a pass on the poison peanuts and laughs off traps and has had the gaul to expand his operation into the neighbors yard. Who has gone high tech with some eletronic gizmos stuck into the ground. I used to just want the cute little furry critter to move on but now I hope my neighbors electric death trap fries the little one parent questionable heritage )(#*)*%.

I had a similar problem with ground squirrels. Found the 3-4 exit holes, plugged all but 1, then ran a tube from exhaust pipe on truck to last hole and ran the truck for 30-40 minutes, didn't see any again , well not for for 3-4 years. I lived in the Bluff for 10 years, those gophers love it out there in that sand, wish I'd thought of gassin them back then.

I have moles in my yard. I found this stuff that is organic. It is the urine of predators and is supposed to skeer them off. www.shake-away.com/
