Well I guess their coach is still in teaching them to win mode.... this schedule is not going to help them come playoff time with the weak district they are in... Other than Carroll and obviously Alice (who is going to smoke them like a cheap cigarette) in non District I'm not sure they scheduled a team that will challenge them
Week 1 CC Moody Week 2 CC Ray Week 3 @cc London Week 4 Hebronville Week 5 @cc Carroll Week 6 Alice Week 7 @hidalgo Week 8 Calallen Week 9 @valley View Week 10 Zapata Week 11 Bye
Potentially 7-3 or 8-2 going into the playoffs, to get blasted by Bay City, El Campo, PLC, Beeville, Floresville, or La Vernia... I'd rather them play Alice, CC Vets, Flour Bluff, GP, Carroll, and Sinton or Southside even to play teams that will beat them or give them a taste of what they are going to face at the playoff level. Get to the playoffs with a worse record and compete and possible win then just get blasted because they play powder puffs with the exception of 2 teams and played a third that was equal to them rebuilding their program too.

I understand your approach, I just don’t think TM is quite ready for that yet. And they’re also scrimmaging Sinton and Ingleside.
Continue to improve the culture, get wins, build belief, maintain excitement, fill the stands…TM wasn’t just a bad program, they were TERRIBLE. TM is scheduling weak teams like Moody, Carroll, and Ray? Heck, TM WAS Moody, Carroll, and Ray a short time ago. Build it up piece by piece, don’t try to take giant leaps just yet.
Put together another 8 win season or two, and then you worrying about the next big step. JMO.

The crap district is masking it. If not for #5 we'd be in a world of hurt offensively. The DC was a good hire, but again the HC is a problem in my opinion. The play calling last year was also terrible. When you have 3 backs that can run the ball, one of which no one could stop, why are you throwing 40 yard ducks? I know you questioned that too... Back to scheduling... I think Carroll is a great game for TM, it's one I feel could go either way. I'd be happy with more Carroll type games even... winnable but not like playing a sub varsity like Moody or Ray. Now if there was confidence in the leadership of the HC, I'd say just jump in and go after them, but with that lack of confidence, I guess it's good we hide in the worst district in Texas so we can make the playoffs more.

None of us are delusional enough to believe that TM has reached the level of a real playoff contender if say the district consisted of PLC, Cal, Beeville, TM, Bay City, El Campo, La Vernia, Floresville. Or if in the old days of GP, FB, PLC, Cal, Miller, TM, Beeville, and Alice. It is only because of the last 2 years weak district they got 3rd, and the even weaker district now they'll get 2nd and be in the playoffs. They won't really even have to try. They have a stud of a running back that will single handedly outscore everyone in district except Cal. They definitely won't start 5-0 or 6-0 this year with Alice being week 3 or 4 or whenever they are. Carroll is the best match up for them. Similar program status and abilities. Similar rebuilding phase. That one should be a great game to watch if both teams are healthy. I think TM will dismantle Moody and Ray pretty easily in weeks 1 and 2. They were so far behind this year that it'll take a few years to catch up still...

If thats what you need to get into the playoffs its not a good thing. Well TM doesn’t exactly get to choose their district. But TM’s rebuild (or build, since they’ve never been a strong program) is a long process. They’ve done a lot of things to help change the culture and attitude towards football, like the renovations and maybe more importantly, finally having a peewee football program to get kids involved at a younger age. Still a long ways to go.

Still a long ways to go. I saw that on their Facebook page...I was glad to see it come back... they used to have a youth sports program at the intermediate and 6th grade level for flag football, basketball, and track from the Talbert days all the way to the Griffin days. Then it was removed by admin 2 years into Griffin's term. They thought it was a waste of money and resources. The youth basketball program had been going on before Talbert because of Bobby Craig, he started that in the early 80s. It is good seeing the improvements the supt. is making there. The kids and community definitely need and deserve it. I can't wait to see what he does next.

Also, Natureboy, you're right TM and Cal definitely didn't choose that crap district. They'd definitely probably prefer the Beeville district for less travel. I'd like to see them in that district to see what their improvement looks like on a weekly basis.

Their ND was 3 win Sinton, 2 win Crystal City, 5 win Ingleside, and Laredo Martin. Cal started the season 4-0 before finishing 5-4-1 for their first winning record in 7 years. Sometimes you just need some wins before you can take the next step.

This year they should have increased the level of opponent to above Moody and Ray in non district. The district play is going to be crappy enough for easy wins except Calallen. I'm not saying schedule Aledo. I'm saying schedule like opponents that would allow them to play a full game. One's that could end up being a loss, but that could also very well be a win. Not only making the boys better, but making the coaches coach better. When they played Calallen and Alice last season, they were out coached on offense. When they got to the playoffs, again out coached on offense. The Calallen game, the boys played their guts out and had chances to do some things, but the offensive coaches lost that game. Alice was far superior in my opinion, but the offensive coaching made it worse. The playoffs again the boys played their hearts out, but the coaches couldn't coach themselves out of a paper bag on offense.

I am glad someone else noticed it TM had a good DC hire but the OC needs to go. he hurt them all season and you are right they were out coached but that’s what you get when you hire a 3a coach that can’t compete at this level and a AD that don’t know no difference. TM needs a strong OC to compete against calallen they’re not even close to their level yet and won’t make it pass the first round of playoffs
