That’s kinda what I keep bringing up since I’m hearing a lot is the “what’s Ewers gonna do once Manning gets there”. Manning has a lot of raw talent, but it’s pretty raw. He’s not gonna show up and start, he’s gonna need some time. Agree Ewers is the man I think and will be the next 2 season so Manning has to grow a lot to challenge for that job! I think that is a good bet it goes down like this. His Uncles didn't start as true Freshmen either, so Arch has to know first hand how the process works. Peyton wasn't the starter his first year and in fact was third string , but got bumped up to starter later due to the #1 and #2 Qb's suffering season ending injuries. There is a chance had those two not been hurt, Peyton would've Redshirted too. Eli got to Redshirt his Freshmen year.

The one thing I've been complaining about for years is O-Line and D-Line. In the previous 10 season Texas recruited a total of (26) 4 star linemen (either side of the ball) and (0) 5 star linemen. That's (1-1/2) 4 star offensive linemen and (1-1/2) four star defensive linemen each year. In 2022 alone Sark brought in (10) 4 star linemen and (1) 5 star. Once you dig into the recruiting classes, you start seeing some things that don't look nearly as good as a Top 15 class should look. To me the recruiting rankings get way over inflated because you can go out and get (10) 4 star defensive backs and look great in the rankings, but what the hell are you gonna do with them? That's kind of how Texas has been doing things. The numbers aren't what they seem. Bro, if you think they didn't recruit 5 star lineman, I've got some land to sell you! THey simply haven't been able to land those 5-star lineman. The bottom line is if you are consistently in the top 10 in recruiting classes and if your staff are not COMPLETE 3 toed booger picking morons, you recruit what is needed and not 10 4-star DBs all in one year. lol Damned right Clem that Texas recruited them every year but getting the ink on the commitment form has eluded them and the next question is why? Is it because up to today Texas is not officially in the SEC with the big dogs who show up on prime time on our TV”s every Saturday. They will be in the SEC in a couple years but not yet. Now things have changed in college football where schools offer NIL”s to incoming great players and no school in the nation has deeper pockets than Texas. A perfect example of this change is Alabama.Saban is old school and hates the idea of schools giving out money to get a great athlete to sign at their school. Alabama”s refusal up till now has severely impacted this years recruiting class. Alabama is not even in the top 10 in recruiting this season. Love it or hate it, the NCAA allowed this bidding war for talent. Now talented high school athletes are getting agents to maximize the value to prospective schools. To me this new rule has destroyed the image of amateur athletics and will have damaging effect on college football.

I think if a college team can somewhat control players leaving the portal. Then recruit based on the positions they need vs just trying to get as high on the recruiting rankings they would be much better off. If you recruit all defensive 5 stars you wind up with an Offense like A&M. (yes, I'm a little mad at them after yesterday.)

But, that O-line is still very young and that is no excuse being this is Jimbo's 6th year there and they should have had some guys with more experience there ready to go just like the QB spot! It is ridiculous to say the least. Until Jimbo humbles himself and admits the game has passed him by offensively and hires the best OC available, it isn't going to get any better at all!
