Why did Sinton's freshman play Refugio's JV?? Orange Grove has no Fr team, Sinton Fr last season gave Refugio their only loss in JV level in a long time. Sinton Fr have 4 games schedule against JV teams. Valley teams won't travel i think or could be both for sub varsity games so have to find nearby teams.

Well, I can see why they are having to play up against JVs but still that can be pretty tough for 14-15 year olds if they are facing 16-17 year old soph & jrs. That can be a lot more of a physical disadvantage that what 1 or 2 years of age would suggest. Yes, some freshman are more mature than others but most are not. Kind of a funny story here for you. My kid was a soph at Steele and floating back and forth from JV to Varsity. We went up to the school to watch the JV play Judson and the sophomore team was playing Navarro. I saw a guy in the stands I'd not seen in a long time and asked him what the hell he was doing at Steele watching a game and he told me his boy was coaching at Navarro. It was the end of the 3rd qtr and they were beating our kids something like 21 - 14 at the end of the 3rd quarter. He commented that he couldn't believe their JV was beating our JV. About that time our JV started out of the lockerroom towards the back of the endzone to start streching. I told him, "look, there comes our JV team there and this is our sophomore team you guys are playing". His eyes about popped out of his head when he saw them and I asked him how he thinks they'd do against that group and all he did was gulp a little and said I don't think I wanna find out. lmao I guess what I'm saying is even as sophomores there can still be quite a big difference in size and strength which is much more true for freshmen kids as you well know.

Sinton is 4A and Refugio is 2A. When I was a Freshman we played and won against Agua Dukce and Bishop Varsities.

Sinton fr group had 7 shut outs as 7th graders, 5 as 8th graders. Only loss has been to Calallen in 8th grade 14-6 and last week to Refugio JV 41-20. This one might need the mercy rule.

Alice 8th graders won that game 16-14. 7th Graders lost 22-15 I believe. From those video clips they both have couple of good size kids for that age group.
