IMO, the playoffs should be about determining the better team, not the team with the best pitcher. You've had all year to develop your pitching STAFF. May the best TEAM win. All series should be 2 out of 3. You hurt the team that developed depth in their staff. This isnt directed solely at Calallen. Let the teams settle this in a 2 out of 3.

From I’ve read on this forum, most posters agree that ALL playoff series should be 2/3, and not 1-gamers. I personally would like the State Tournament to be a double elimination tournament. But, the UIL won’t allow it.

I'm all for the series from round one to the state tourney and the UIL needs to make the later happen. The Austin area has plenty of facilities to get this done (UT, Concordia, Round Rock- Dell Diamond, St Edwards, and Texas State). Looking forward here Thursday into the weekend if the weather forecast plays out, the Cal/Sinton matchup might be limited to one game even if we had a series in play. Forecast is for a bunch of rain on Friday and Saturday... Yep, could easily be moved to one of the area's turf fields I suppose if we has a series . Issue with the severe nature of these events is the darn lightning delays. If they could shorten these to 15 mins if the storm in question is moving away from the stadium, then it would help a whole bunch to get these games in within a reasonable amount of time. But every time a strike is noted with a certain radius, the clock resets. If either one of these teams got into a late series on Saturday, the rest time for the Wednesday semi will be diminished greatly. The winner will more than likely be leaving on Tuesday Afternoon, so throw that into the equation too. This weather event might involve a large part of the state as well, so other series might be reduced to one gamers if alternative plans have not been made. It's going to cause chaos at the State Softball Tourney unfortunately. Have to wonder if games might have to be played on Sunday if the early forecast pans out? McComb Softball field is not completely all weather turf.

All series should be 2 out of 3. You hurt the team that developed depth in their staff. This isnt directed solely at Calallen. Let the teams settle this in a 2 out of 3. Cal has two consistent arms that could get the job done in an almost perfect scenario (which this is not) .... But I concur we SHOULD have a deeper roster of pitchers so this wouldn't even be a point of debate. This kind of goes back several seasons now where we only utilize two and MAYBE a third pitcher during the balance of the season and when crunch time comes, we are up the creek because of a late season (playoff) injury or fatigue. A couple of times one of the better arms came down with an injury and that pretty much sealed our fate. I don't know where we got off track with developing more arms to be game ready, but I do believe it's a factor why we haven't been back to Austin/Round Rock since 2011. When your number three or four arms see little or no action since tourney season and then you are pressed into action come playoff time having not played in a real game since mid March, you better hope your offense comes through. Sure they have simulated games in practice for the three through whatever numbers arms and the number three through whatever arms might come in relief with a 10 run lead, but this is not the same thing as real game action, especially crunch time situations This is like in my football analogy in another thread of a PK kicking 50 yard plus FG's in pre game and then having to face the pressure of a defense on the other side come 30 mins later and many of those 50 yard attempts don't even make the end zone. The head scratcher from my perspective is there are certainly enough games during the balance of the district season to give the third, forth and even a fifth arm a couple of shots and certainly the first round or two of the playoffs. I get that winning District is important, but winning that District title and then hitting the exit door two to three weeks later seems very anticlimactic , especially for a program that doesn't post it's District Titles on the outfield fence or a billboard rather reserves it for it's State Titles. So if you have to roll the dice and let one of the number three or four arm pitch against a better team in district, do it for experience sake. Besides sometimes coming in 2nd or even 3rd in district works out well in the brackets for some teams. We've had enough close games as the #1 seed against #4 seeds in the last few seasons to know this.

So is this a 1 gamer or a series. I read back through and saw that Cal wanted one game but didn't see a post confirming which it was?

If we had a three gamer, it would have been reduced to one game now because of tonight’s rain and Sinton’s graduation tomorrow.

Calallen vs Sinton Saturday, June 5, 2021 Veterans Field (Laredo, Texas) @3:00pm Veterans Field 2200 Santa Maria Ave. Laredo, Texas 78040 Nice venue, but some folks are not going to get a seat. The burger seats 6,000 and Vets Field only seats 5,000. Parents and students should get first option. It would be nice if they could set up some Funtime buses to take the fans to the game.
