G-P freshmen team has some big boys Did they do pretty well last year? The incoming FB frosh got 2nd place in district...losing to T-M 14-10 in the last game. Was G-P 3rd?

I think a team went 2-6 and b team went 6-2. Difference in last year and this year was that, last year they had 1 coach. This year they have the whole coaching staff working with them and just them. They practice in the afternoon and varsity and JV practice in the morning. That in itself is great for the G-P freshmen. From what I saw there is some good talent and some very big boys. I corrected my post sorry 83

When they were 7th grade, A team was 7-2 and B team was 8-1, last year A team was 2-6 and B team was 6-2 (Didn't play a game due to rain). A team didn't look good at all and I'll give that credit to coaching. These 9th graders have some serious speed, but our big boy line were marsh mellows, and were just blown off the line. Coach A and staff have a LOT of work to do with these kids, but our freshman NOW have position coaches and all coaches coach them...looks like a varsity practice and will only improve them.

My son's class was 2-18 in 7th and 8th grade (A team) losing usually by 40+ points...it wasn't pretty. When they were freshmen, they were 5-5 and never lost a game by more than 6 points. I attribute half of the increase to coaching and half to the kids finally growing and maturing. Calallen could have beaten them 70-0 in 8th grade and last year's game was only 18-12. You will have lots of fun watching your kid when he is a freshman...they grow so much from their 8th grade year. It was a fun season to watch. Baseball was fun as well...they play double headers once a week...those were fun nights!

These coaches are teaching techniques I have never seen taught to the varsity. Fresh blood is always good! He's changed everything....last year, varsity practiced on one field, JV on another, soph on another and freshman on another, all at the same time....the sub-varsity's only having a single coach. Now, freshman practice 2 hours before V/JV and all the coaches, including JR High are there...that's about 14 coaches in all, coaching a certain position. Then the V/JV come out and they all practice as one. It's the most structured practice I have ever seen with very little down time and constantly moving. Years past in sub-varsity's, they would just concentrate on execution and pay very little attention to technique, because the coaches were spread so thin. Now, each play has a positions coach barking at them on technique, and it starts with freshman. It's really neat to watch.
